Ghana Cedi : The Looping Journey

GHANA CEDI
Ghana's currency has come a long way. It has pass through 4 generations one colonial and 3 Ghanaian cedi revolutions. An intelligent guess after looking through successive changes reveals reasons such as political sentiments, macroeconomic indicators such as inflation, exchange rates. The physical look of the currency  both coin and bank notes has interesting characters ;obverse and reverse. The first cedi had the picture of Nkrumah on the observe. That shouldn't have been a big deal Britain our former masters still has their Queen Elizabeth till date.

Ghana's First President Nkrumah   introduced the Cedi to replace the ancient West African Pound also patronised used by Nigeria,Liberia,Senegal,Guinea.
His reason was to convert to decimal system widely used other than the British imperial system. Consequently this new country carried the picture of Almighty Nkrumah during the days of union government.

Mind you before Nkrumah's Cedi ,Gold Coast currencies had never being the same. There were Money cowry (popularly known as cedie, Akan goldweights (golddust), Gold Coast ackey.
Presently modern Ghanaians have sentiments as to why the new notes has repeat photograph of the Big Six on its observe.

Perhaps our young brothers should be taught history behind our currency instead of a comprehensive sexual education.
